Swedish home design retail chain Inter IKEA System B.V. opened the first phase of its warehouse complex in Savannah last week.

The 685,000-square-foot distribution center, which will eventually expand to 1.7 million square feet, is located on 115 acres of the Savannah International Trade Park. It will have 125 employees when completed.

The center will receive some 15,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit containers (TEUs) per year through the Port of Savannah.

The facility will provide inventory for IKEA stores in Georgia and Texas, as well as future stores planned for North Carolina and in Florida.
