The Atlanta International Soccer Fest, a fundraising campaign also designed to raise awareness of Atlanta’s efforts to land the World Cup tournament in 2018 or 2022, will hold a closing celebration Friday, July 9, at the W Hotel at 3377 Peachtree Road in Buckhead.
Tickets are $20 if purchased in advance, $25 at the door. Proceeds benefit SOS Children’s Villages, a non-profit group that provides homes for orphans and neglected children worldwide. Click here for more information
The fest is organized by the South African-American Chamber of Commerce and the German American Chamber of Commerce.
More than 700 fans attended the soccer fest opening event June 12, a tournament featuring teams fielded by local consulates and bi-national chambers of commerce.
The tournament coincided with the opening of the World Cup tournament in South Africa, with live radio and television broadcasts of the matches piped in through speakers and screens at the Atlanta Silverbacks Park. Twenty teams competed in three groups. Winners were teams representing Kenya, Brazil and CBS Radio.
The tournament was followed by a series of World Cup viewing parties at local restaurants. The Friday finale, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., will include an appetizer buffet, access to the W’s rooftop bar, and music.
