The Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal in Atlanta marked its first year of operations on May 16. During calendar year 2012, the new terminal and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport‘s Concourse E served 9.85 million international passengers and managed 68,209 international takeoffs and landings..
“The international terminal opened an untapped opportunity for growth,” said Louis Miller, aviation general manager at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, in a news release.
According to the release, a common-use, high-tech lounge offering first-class amenities to travelers without an affiliation to any particular airline is to be opened in June and sleep and spa accommodations are to be added in 2014.
An estimated $50.6 million in sales were generated by 28 retail outlets, restaurants and other business services at the facility from May 2012 through April 2013.
The release also said that the most popular feature of the new terminal remains the elimination of the baggage re-check process for in-bound international travelers whose final destination is Atlanta.
(Correction: An earlier version of this article indicated that the 9.85 million passengers had passed through the new terminal from May 2012-13.)
