Andrew Young, the former mayor of Atlanta and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, will deliver the keynote address for the opening ceremony of the 49th International Congress of AIESEC, an international, student-run organization which operates the world’s largest student work exchange program.
The Congress will be held in Atlanta Aug. 27- Sept. 4 at the Radisson Hotel downtown and is expected to draw some 600 student leaders from 87 countries.
AIESEC is a French acronym for the International Association of Students Interested in Business and Economics. The Association has 50 chapters in the U.S. with chapters at Georgia Tech and Emory University.
Peter Stewart, Congress committee chairman, said that the association already has raised $100,000 for the event and is looking for an additional $15,000. Principal sponsors include BellSouth, Coca-Cola, Georgia Tech, Home Depot, Lufthansa and Price Waterhouse.
The theme of the Congress is “Making the Connection.” “Insight,” a new computer program for matching companies interested in hiring an AIESEC trainee with potential candidates, will be unveiled at the Congress.
