Jay Puentes, right, has been named head of U.S. sales for Wayflyer.

Wayflyer, an Irish fintech firm fresh off a $76 million Series A fundraising round, is setting up an office in Atlanta and plans to grow to 50 employees by the end of the year.

Co-founder Jack Pierse is relocating to Atlanta to join newly hired head of U.S. sales Jay Puentes  at a new office situated close to the Atlanta Beltline. Mr. Puentes is a veteran of another fintech giant founded in Georgia: GreenSky Financial, which helps merchants boost sales by providing loans to their customers, as well as ChargeAfter, where her worked most recently.

Wayflyer, which helps e-commerce firms fund growth with interest-free working-capital advances paid back from sales, is set to join a Global Atlanta-moderated roundtable on foreign fintech firms alighting in Atlanta at this Wednesday’s Fintech South virtual conference. Mr. Pierse and CEO and co-founder Aidan Corbett are to join the call with Dutch donation platform Givt

Before its funding round, Wayflyer had already pegged international expansion as key to its growth strategy, evidenced by a partnership with Adobe Commerce and an earlier $100 million debt funding round.

Mr. Puentes said in the release that despite exponential growth in the e-commerce sector, where more than 2 billion people made purchases globally last year, merchants’ growth remains constrained by the existing funding models, which pit inventory needs against cashflow.

“Wayflyer is uniquely positioned to solve these issues and help e-commerce entrepreneurs unlock their potential. In the past three weeks alone, the Wayflyer U.S. team has doubled from 7 to 15, and I look forward to leveraging the extensive local network I’ve built over the last decade to oversee expansion in the area,” Mr. Puentes said.

Wayflyer will be hiring for sales roles as well as customer support, marketing and underwriting.
