Aubrey Daniels, a management consultant who helps companies bring out the best in their employees through the systematic use of positive reinforcement, got a little of his own medicine recently.

A Japanese translation of his book, Bringing Out the Best in People: How to Apply the Astonishing Power of Positive Reinforcement, prompted a call from the senior manager of Japan’s largest consulting group, Nomura Research Institute Ltd. (NRI).

Now Dr. Daniels’ company, Aubrey Daniels & Associates (ADA), has licensed NRI to use the company’s methods in their consulting practice.

He also addressed representatives of NRI’s clients in Tokyo and Osaka at the invitation of the manger, Toru Hatano.

“Japanese businesses have been known for demanding and getting high levels of performance,” Dr. Daniels told GlobalFax during an interview in his office in Tucker.  “But now they are beginning to experience turnover, absenteeism and lower productivity and they realize a new approach is necessary.”

Dr. Daniels and his staff are expanding their list of Japanese clients in the U.S. and plan to travel regularly to Japan to support NRI’s efforts to implement ADA’s Performance Mangement method.

ADA also has offices in England and Brazil and employs some 30 consultants.
