A South Korean countertop manufacturer will spend $50 million to build a new facility next to its Georgia plant, creating up to 80 jobs while launching a new product line.

LG Hausys America Inc., which moved its headquarters to Atlanta last August, will make engineered stone countertops at the new plant in Adairsville, a city along Interstate 75 about 60 miles northwest of Atlanta. LG Hausys America currently makes solid surface countertops at its existing plant, according to a Georgia Department of Economic Development news release.

Hiring for the new 95,000-square-foot plant is expected begin in the third quarter of this year.

LG Hausys America was created in New Jersey in 1988 to promote its parent company, an industrial and chemical products manufacturer, in North America. The unit chose Georgia for its first countertop plant in 2003.
