LG Electronics USA is betting that the hot summers of the Southeast can help its commercial air conditioning business prosper.

The company on Dec. 11 opened a 16,000-square-foot facility in Roswell where it will provide product training for hundreds of engineers, technicians and contractors each month.

Roswell was a “natural choice” for the center, positioning LG employees for hands-on training in a region of the country with high demand for air conditioning systems, according to a news release.

The new LG Roswell facility houses the company’s digital appliance and mobile phone units.  It employs 30 people and plans additional hiring in 2009.LG Electronics USA is one of South Korean giant LG Electronics Inc.‘s 82 subsidiaries around the world.

According to the Seoul-based company’s Web site, it has nearly 30,000 employees in Korea and more than 50,000 overseas.

The company makes mobile communications devices, televisions, washing machines, monitors, air conditioners, DVD players, home theater systems and other digital media products, displays and appliances.
