Liberia‘s ambassador to the United States is set to headline a gala celebrating the country’s independence in Atlanta July 30.
Ambassador George S.W. Patten, Sr., who has represented the West African in Washington since 2019, will speak at the dinner hosted by the Liberian Association of Metro Atlanta.
Before his appointment in the U.S., Mr. Patten served as chargé d’affaires at Liberia’s mission to the United Nations, as well as ambassador to Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda.
During a virtual forum organized in late 2020 by Cynthia Blandford, Liberia’s honorary consul in Georgia, Mr. Patten praised Atlanta groups for their assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Church groups, medical organizations and major NGOs like the Carter Center all operate in the nation of 4 million, which was founded by freed American slaves in 1847.
Mr. Patten visited Atlanta in person during “Connect Liberia” lunch at the Buckhead Club in 2019, outlining the benefits of business with his country, especially with the recent passage of the African Continental Free Trade Area. He also urged Georgia officials to create an “Africa strategy” for facilitating trade and investment outreach to the continent.
The gala dinner will be held at My Community Center, located at 2150 Paxton Drive in Lilburn. Tickets can be purchased via Cash App for $50 at $lamaofficial.
