In 2024, Grow London Global stopped in Atlanta with another Enterprise Tech Trade Mission.

A trade mission by led by London’s investment promotion arm is set to drop in on Atlanta in March, bringing 15 technology companies with an interest in establishing a presence in the U.S. market.

The Grow London Global program run by London & Partners has brought groups to Atlanta in the past, most recently in 2024.

The Enterprise Tech Trade Mission will include a two-day stop here March 9-10 before the group heads to New York. A reception giving locals the opportunity to the delegation is being held March 9 for qualifying companies and community members. Apply to attend here (limited space, subject to organizer approval)

The U.S. often the first stop outside of Europe for British tech firms intent on scaling their products internationally, given its deep financial markets and sales potential in areas where many British startups excel: software, AI, sports tech, media and financial services.

The longtime allies are also buoyed by bonhomie, goodwill and the so-called bilateral Technology Prosperity Deal that brought some light to a dim time in the trade relationship last year. Some aspects of that agreement are stalled, but corporate giants in software, finance and AI have committed tens of billions of dollars in new across-the-pond investment.

While many tech firms intent on the U.S. market still land in New York or other cities, Atlanta has been drawing its share of British innovators in recent years, especially in industries where the city has a competitive advantage, such as fintech and payments. Tyk, which participated in the previous mission, has had success in Atlanta since setting up shop here four years ago to help companies create and manage their APIs.

One recent example is ekko, which helps processors and merchants embeds climate consciousness into customers’ payment journeys. The British firm took up residence in South Downtown last month, boasting big customers like WorldPay and ambitions to enable $1 billion in donations in five years.

Oli Cook, ekko’s CEO, previously participated in a Grow London Global trip, which he called a “brilliant scheme.”

Set to speak to the departing group this month, Mr. Cook told Global Atlanta he would advise the startups to listen to each other, but not to be sidetracked by someone else’s vision for where they should land.

“Just be open-minded and listen to people and figure out what is right for your business,” he said. “Because there are lots of places you can go — we went through lots of places all over the world — but what’s right for you is not necessarily right for everyone.”

He added that the trip fosters peer groups of executives that can end up becoming sounding boards for one another.

“You often are with, on these trade missions, organizations who are nowhere near competitors but can probably help in some way because the challenges are largely similar: How do you set up? How do you think about that? What’s your go-to-market? How do you think about going to market in different jurisdictions? If your product is B2B, it’s probably similar-ish. Invest more time in relationships with those people.”

Grow London Global is broader than the trade missions it facilitates. Part of the Grow London initiative, the 12-month international expansion program includes resources and mentorship along with trips, helping more than 600 cohort companies secure £428m in business deals since its launch in 2023.

Eligible companies musth have a minimum of 10 employees, a 20 percent annual growth rate and demonstrated international ambitions. The latest cohort includes more than 100 companies across creative industries, life sciences, fintech and cybersecurity, enterprise, sustainability and more.

This year’s cohort also includes companies from Essex and the West Midlands. Learn more about the program and see the full cohort here
