Any reference to a new Manchester flight from Atlanta is likely to bring to mind Virgin Atlantic, which is set to take over Delta Air Lines Inc.’s nonstop to the U.K. city next year. But it’s Lufthansa Cargo that recently created a brand new trans-Atlantic air link.

As of Nov. 7, the German airline is operating a dedicated Boeing 777 freighter on the route, providing 105 tons of cargo lift five days a week.

The news came just before the airport came out with a new economic impact study showing that cargo accounted for $6.7 billion in business revenue and 27,289 total jobs for the metro Atlanta region.

Lufthansa launched the Boeing 777 cargo flights into Atlanta last November, promising more and larger cargo with improved fuel efficiency.

The airline celebrated the occasion with a small press luncheon at the Manchester Arms pub in College Park Nov. 20.
