Astrid Diaz-Infante assumed the position of deputy consul general of Mexico in Atlanta on Jan. 19, taking the place of Hugo Juarez, who assumed Ms. Diaz-Infante’s position in the Mexican consulate based in San Jose, Calif.
Her duties will remain virtually the same with responsibilities to oversee the operations of four departments at the Mexican Consulate General in Buckhead, she told GlobalFax in an interview in her office last week.
As deputy consul she will assist in the processing of documents including visas on behalf of businesspeople seeking to visit Mexico.
She also will assist in overseeing the consulate’s departments involved with community issues, matters relating to the legal protection of Mexican workers in the Southeast and media relations.
She added that she would be willing to support the Mexican Trade Commission here with issues relating to the promotion of Mexico as an investment site for U.S. companies.
While in San Jose, she said that as much as 20% of her work dealt with commercial issues because so many high-tech firms headquartered in the surrounding area of Silicon Valley wanted to establish a presence in Mexico.
The consulate general in Atlanta has jurisdiction over most of Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Ms. Diaz-Infante is a member of the Mexican diplomatic service and has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ General Division of Bilateral Economic Relations for Latin America and the Borders Division, which oversees air, land and ocean borders.
