Smyrna-based Murata Electronics North America Inc. is acquiring wireless Internet and radio components producer RF Monolithics Inc. for about $20 million.

Murata North America is a subsidiary of Kyoto, Japan-based Murata Manufacturing Co., which makes components for a number of devices including computers, mobile phones and televisions.

Jerry Kolbe, director of technology and marketing communications for the subsidiary, told GlobalAtlanta that the acquisition will help the company grow in targeted industries including energy and health-care equipment.

The deal can also help Murata expand in new markets like satellite radio.

The company is acquiring all of Dallas-based RF Monolithics’ outstanding stock, 11.3 million shares, at $1.78 per share. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter.

Murata Manufacturing employs more than 35,000 people in 23 countries. RF Monolithics has 70 workers.
