A German medical device firm that has spent three decades growing in metro Atlanta is now expanding beyond its original footprint.
Gerresheimer is more than doubling its employee count to nearly 700 and opening two new factory buildings in Peachtree City, one of them down the road from where it first set up shop in 1993.
Based in the German city of Düsseldorf with 12,000 employees and 35 factories around the world, the company makes inhalers, test cards for microbiological test systems, closures for ampoules (sealed vials) and insulin delivery devices in the U.S., where it now employs about 270 people.
Construction of a new 83,000-square-foot plant on its existing site is nearing completion. About 53,800 square feet will comprise clean rooms, with much of the remaining space devoted to an automated warehouse. Scheduled for completion this year, this first facility will see the installation of new equipment and the ramp-up of production near the end of 2024.
A second new building is to be constructed about 1.6 miles from the main campus following largely the same template: 110,000 square feet overall with 77,500 square feet devoted to class nine clean room production space and another automated warehouse. Construction on that plant after an access road and “supply infrastructure” are added, with plans to begin full production in late 2025. As an added benefit, the second new site has room for further growth.

Between the two new locations, the company plans to invest about 166 million euros ($180 million) on equipment and construction. Upon completion, Gerresheimer will be one of the largest employers in Peachtree City with nearly 700 workers, providing a testimony to the power of foreign investment as a change agent in Georgia communities.
Gerresheimer last expanded a decade ago, adding a 60,000 square foot plant on its 35-acre Peachtree City site and investing $10 million.
The company has 35 production sites in 16 countries and posted about 2 billion euros in sales in 2023.
