SUMMARY:2025 Dunwoody Virtual Great Decisions Lecture Series – U.S. Changing Leadership of the World Economy
DESCRIPTION:The annual 2025 Dunwoody Great Decisions Foreign Policy Lecture Series will take place via Zoom every Thursday evening from February 6 – March 27\, 2025 at 7:00 PM. There is a fee to register for the virtual lecture series\, and registration is required to receive the event link. \n\n\n\nTopic: U.S. Changing Leadership of the World Economy \n\n\n\nUnder President Biden\, the U.S. has advanced new ideas about trade\, technology\, industrial policy\, competition with China\, and the organization of the world economy. For most of the postwar era\, the U.S. has tied its global leadership to cooperative agendas aimed at creating a more open-world trading system\, but that has apparently come to an end. What are America’s options and opportunities as a leader of the world economy? How will America’s “foreign policy for the middle class” and strategic competition with China impact its leadership role? How can the postwar rules and institutions of the world economy be made safe for economic nationalism and great power competition? \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Dr. Stephen Collins\, Professor of Political Science and International Affairs\, Kennesaw State University (KSU) \n\n\n\nPlease note\, topics and speakers are subject to change dates. \n\n\n\nGreat Decisions\, presented by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA)\, highlights the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans each year. SUMMARY:2021 Dunwoody Great Decisions Virtual Lecture Series: The Korean Peninsula
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Georgia Council for International Visitors (GCIV) in partnership with the Atlanta Global Studies Center\, the annual 2021 Dunwoody Great Decisions Foreign Policy Lecture Series will take place via Zoom every Thursday evening from February 4 – March 25\, 2021 at 7:30 PM. The 2021 virtual lecture series is free\, but registration is required to receive the event link. \nMar. 11\, 2021 Topic: The Korean Peninsula\nLecture by: Dr. Sohoo Lee\, Associate Professor and Graduate Director\, Civic Engagement and Public Service\, University of West Georgia. Political Commentator for Atlanta Radio Korea (AAM1040 located in Atlanta) and Political Columnist for News Today and W’s (an Atlanta-based Korean weekly news magazine) \nThe Korean Peninsula is facing a defining era. Attempts by South Korean President Moon Jae-in and former U.S. President Donald Trump to repair the rift between North and South have lost any momentum as Pyongyang continues to test long-range missiles for its nuclear weapons program. As the rift between the U.S. and China grows further\, South Korea may end up in the middle of the two superpowers. What does the future hold for the U.S. relationship with the ROK? \nGreat Decisions\, presented by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA)\, highlights eight of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans each year. GCIV is the statewide coordinator for the nonpartisan program. To view the other 2021 topics or learn more about Great Decisions\, visit Gciv.org/programs/gd. \nGCIV serves as the statewide coordinator for the Foreign Policy Association’s (FPA) Great Decisions program by helping facilitate discussion groups and lecture series that give participants the opportunity to expand their understanding of world affairs. \n\n\n	From the archive:

DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Georgia Council for International Visitors in partnership with the Atlanta Global Studies Center\, the annual 2021 Dunwoody Great Decisions Foreign Policy Lecture Series will take place via Zoom every Thursday evening from February 4 – March 25\, 2021 at 7:30 PM. Co-author of Introduction: Arctic Modernities\, Environmental Politics\, and the Era of the Anthropocene \nFormer U.S. President Donald Trump left many scratching their heads when it was rumored that he was looking to purchase the large island nation of Greenland from Denmark. While any potential deal seems highly unlikely\, the event shows the changing opinion within the U.S. government toward engagement with the Arctic region. Because of climate change\, large sheets of arctic ice are melting\, exposing vast stores of natural gas and oil. With Russia and China already miles ahead with their Arctic strategies\, can the U.S. catch up? \nGreat Decisions\, presented by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA)\, highlights eight of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans each year. Dr. Rubin is also the Associate Editor of the journal Terrorism and Political Violence. His areas of expertise include the Middle East and the Gulf as well as Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Policy. \nThe Persian Gulf remains tense as the rivalry between the regional powers of Saudi Arabia and Iran continues. Tensions escalated in early 2020 as the United States began to intervene in the Gulf\, launching an airstrike that killed two Iranian military commanders. What are the historical influences that have led to these tensions? What role\, if any\, should the United States play? Is using military force a viable foreign policy option for 2021 and beyond? \nGreat Decisions\, presented by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA)\, highlights eight of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans each year. SUMMARY:2021 Dunwoody Great Decisions Virtual Lecture Series: Global Supply Chains and National Security
\nFeb. 4\, 2021 Topic: Global Supply Chains and National Security\nLecture by Dr. Chelsea “Chip” White\, Schneider National Chair in Transportation and Logistics and Professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech \nThe shutdown of global supply chains due to the COVID-19 pandemic brought to the forefront an issue with the high level of global economic interdependence: what happens when one country is the main source for an item\, say face masks\, and then can no longer supply the item? Countries suddenly unable to meet the demand for certain supplies are faced with growing calls for economic nationalism. What are some of the lasting effects that the pandemic could have on global supply chains and trade? How would this affect national security? \nGreat Decisions\, presented by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA)\, highlights eight of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans each year.
