SUMMARY:Women’s Leadership: Driving Change
DESCRIPTION:Women’s Leadership Virtual Exchange Launching Event\nHassan II University of Casablanca (H2UC) and Kennesaw State University (KSU) invite you to participate in a webinar event to kick-off our Women’s Leadership Virtual Exchange program supported by the Stevens Initiative. The webinar will feature distinguished speakers including: Morocco’s Minister Delegate to the Ministry of National Education\, Vocational Training\, Higher Education and Scientific Research\, in charge of Higher Education and Scientific Research\, Driss Ouaouicha; Caroline Casagrande\, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Academic Programs\, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs\, U.S. Department of State; Hassan II University of Casablanca President\, Dr. Aawatif Hayar; Kennesaw State University President\, Dr. Pamela Whitten; and Cobb Chamber of Commerce President & CEO\, Sharon Mason. The webinar will include a panel discussion of successful women leaders who will share their experiences driving change in their communities\, both locally and globally. Prepare to get inspired! \nThe United Nations Sustainable Development Goals emphasize the full participation of women and girls in society as imperative to a more peaceful and prosperous world. The UN highlights the importance of developing effective partnerships\, including international partnerships\, to reach such goals. Specifically\, goal four (Quality Education) calls for eliminating gender disparities in education and ensuring equal access to all levels of education. Goal five (Gender Equality) calls for women’s full and effective participation in decision-making at all levels\, including equal access to leadership roles\, in political\, economic\, and public life. Goal eight (Decent Work and Economic Growth) focuses on the promotion of continued\, inclusive\, and sustainable\neconomic growth\, full and productive employment\, and decent work for all. Finally\, goal ten (Reduced Inequalities) focuses on reducing inequality\, which includes the elimination of discriminatory laws\, policies and practices\, and the promotion of appropriate legislation\, policies and practices that build effective\, accountable\, and inclusive institutions at all levels. The panelists we have brought together have worked tirelessly to achieve such goals throughout their lives and in the leadership roles they occupy. \nThis event is free and open to the public. \nInfo about the virtual exchange project\nHassan II University of Casablanca and Kennesaw State University’s Women’s Leadership Virtual Exchange engages students from both universities in a unique cross-cultural virtual exchange experience focused on better understanding women’s leadership through research\, analysis\, and digital storytelling. This project provides participating students with a better understanding of the challenges and obstacles that exist for increasing women’s rights and leadership roles in society. Students not only gain a learning experience around the topic of women’s leadership\, but they also advance their abilities to work in international and intercultural contexts as they develop the intercultural competency needed in today’s global society. \nThe Stevens Initiative is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State\, with funding provided by the U.S. Government\, and is administered by the Aspen Institute. It is also supported by the Bezos Family Foundation and the governments of Morocco and the United Arab Emirates. \n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Year of Morocco: The Case of the Ben M'Sik Community Museum
DESCRIPTION:Partnering With a Moroccan University: The Case of the Ben M’Sik Community Museum \nThe Ben M’sik Community Museum (BMCM) is a burgeoning museum housed at Faculty of Letters and Humanities\, Ben M’sik\, Casablanca\, Morocco\, located at the heart of the diverse Ben M’sik neighborhood of Casablanca. The decision to create the Ben M’sik Community Museum\, the first of its kind in Morocco\, is an indication of its commitment to establish deeper contacts with the community it serves. The BMCM’s mission “to preserve memory by interpreting\, exhibiting\, and promoting the stories of the diverse populations of the neighborhood and its region” supports the University’s own mission of increasing the number of interactions with partners belonging to its socio-economic environment. \nOf the less than 20 museums in Morocco\, the BMCM is one of two located in Casablanca. The BMCM is unique in its focus as a center of community engagement. Unlike traditional museums that primarily collect and display antiquities and great works of art\, the BMCM specifically seeks to document the day-to-day lives of local residents. \nFeaturing: Dr. Catherine Lewis\, Assistant Vice President for Museums\, Archives and Rare Books\, KSU \n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Envisioning the Future and Understanding the Realities of India’s Urban Ecologies
DESCRIPTION:India\, a land of ancient wisdom and cultural world heritage\, is home to the world’s first\ncities. In the last twenty years it has experienced unprecedented growth\, development\, and change\, altering its physical\, cultural\, and social landscape with dramatic effect. Today\, its cities embody a paradoxical mix of globalization\, modernity\, and advanced technology with regionalism\, tradition\, and religion\, juxtaposed with extreme poverty and\ninequality. \nSustainability\, in all its facets has emerged as a key problem in India’s development story. Urbanization is not an independent variable of development\, but an integral part and product of the development process itself. Therefore\, there is a need to understand urban issues as part of a larger development process affecting both rural and urban communities and livelihoods\, employing historical and contemporary perspectives (with regional and global implications). \nBuilding off research in the fields of Sociology\, Biology\, and Architecture\, the conference will examine contemporary urban growth in India and its effects on the everyday ecologies of its people. The goal is a more holistic understanding of India’s urban ecologies\, their interdependence\, and the need for more sustainable strategies for urbanization. India’s cities can provide applicable lessons to the more global concerns of urbanization around the world. \n  \n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Managing Sustainability and Food Security in Conflict Regions
DESCRIPTION:Food insecurity is both a cause and consequence of conflict. Managing food insecurity poses increasing challenges to the international development community.  Food insecurity as a cause of conflict is often linked to international market dynamics\, which can send shock waves across continents\, as the world experienced during the 2007/2008 global food price crisis. Food insecurity as a consequence of conflict is related to the destruction\, disruption\, and diversion of productive resources during conflict. The purpose of this workshop is to generate greater awareness of the importance and challenges of food security management as a conflict prevention policy and a humanitarian response mechanism in conflict-affected regions. \n\n\n	From the archive:
