SUMMARY:France-Atlanta | Exploring FinTech Trends in the Southeast - Changing the World of Finance: Alternative Payments Methods
DESCRIPTION:NEW DATE – Wednesday\, Nov. 10\, 8 to 9am EDT \n“Georgia is the epicenter of FinTech\, with 70% of all U.S. transactions handled by payment processing firms located in Georgia. The state’s “Transaction Alley” is comprised of 170+ FinTech companies\, which generate an annual revenue of over $72 billion. \nAs one industry veteran notes\, “[Given payment complexity]\, if you don’t engage Georgia you’re going to hit a wall on the last mile of execution.” (Source\,Georgia Department of Economic Development) \nThe FinTech industry is one of Georgia’s most important and fastest-growing sectors. In fact\, Georgia’s FinTech ecosystem ranks 3rd in the nation (behind only New-York and California)\, with the Top 20 Georgia based FinTech companies generating annual revenue of more than $72 billion. \nOn Wednesday\, November 10\, hear from industry experts on a hot FinTech topic: Alternative Payment Methods. \nAlternative Payments refers to payment methods that are used as an alternative to cash or traditional debit/credit card payments. Most alternative payment methods address a domestic economy or have been specifically developed for electronic commerce. \nThe number of alternative payments has grown exponentially in the last few years due to the need for billing solutions on the Internet. You’ve certainly heard about digital wallet\, money orders\, APM\, cashless or frictionless payments\, cryptocurrencies\, Bitcoins\, but how familiar are you with these new payment methods? How is it secure? Should my business consider it as an alternative to cash or debit/credit cards? And how the Atlanta FinTech Ecosystem is leading the way in developing these alternative payment methods? \nThis FinTech panel discussion will be a HYBRID event\, with a very LIMITED number of seats if your would like to attend this event in-person. \nIf you are not able to join in-person or if the in-person event is sold out\, you will have the opportunity to join virtually. \nFor those you will be attending in-person\, please make sure to join at 7:30am EDT for a light breakfast networking session. \nFor those joining virtually\, the event will start at 8am EDT. \n  \nSpeakers: \nChristine de Wendel Co-founder and US CEO at sunday \n \n  \nNicolas Cabrera\, CPO at BAKKT \n \n  \nLori Wright\, Partner and chair of AGG’s Technology practice at Arnall Golden Gregory\, LLC \n \n  \nGayle Gorvett\, CEO & Managing Partner at GGorvett Consulting LLC and and Secretary at La French Tech Atlanta \n  \nThis panel discussion will be moderated by\, Trevor Williams \nManaging Editor at Global Atlanta \n \n  \n  \n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Film: Triage\, Dr Orbinski’s Humanitarian Dilemma
DESCRIPTION:Join for a special documentary film screening of “Triage\, Dr. James Orbinski’s Humanitarian Dilemma”. \nTRIAGE follows the powerful odyssey of James Orbinski\, a humanitarian\, Nobel Peace Prize-winning doctor\, and former head of Doctors Without Borders\, as he returns to Africa to ponder the meaning of his life’s work and the value of helping others. Drawing on a lifetime of experience deep in the trenches of genocide and famine\, this extraordinary individual relives the triumphs and tragedies of relief work in Somalia\, Rwanda\, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The film will unsettle and move as it pointedly asks disturbing questions at the heart of the humanitarian dilemma. \nWhat can any one individual really do to bring peace to those who suffer? Where does humanitarianism end and raw politics begin? How does the sight of unspeakable evil affect the soul? Smartly directed by Patrick Reed\, this remarkable film provides no definitive answers\, but celebrates the best in the human spirit while staring unblinkingly at the worst. \nOrganized by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and the Georgia Tech Center For Health and Humanitarian Systems (CHHS)\, this documentary film screening will serve as a link between the health and humanity issues addressed during the 2019 France-Atlanta Humanitarian Forum (November 8) and the CHHS Health Systems Next Generation Forum (November 12). Don’t Miss These Events! \n__\nThis event is part of #FranceAtlanta2019! \nCreated in 2010 by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and Georgia Tech\, France-Atlanta is a series of events centered on innovation and designed to foster cooperation between France and the U.S. Southeast. \nDiscover this year’s events☞ https://france-atlanta.org \n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Singing Africa: Ibeyi in concert at the Variety Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:Franco-Cuban twins Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé Diaz of hit duo Ibeyi bring their soulful voices and magnetic stage presence to Atlanta for a night of electrifying music. The 22-year-old sisters — who sing in English and Yoruba\, the language of their Nigerian ancestors who arrived in Cuba as slaves — burst onto the music scene in 2015 with their self-titled debut album\, which blends hip-hop\, jazz and soul with electronic beats and traditional instruments. The pair draws influence from both their Parisian upbringing and the Afro-Cuban musical tradition of their father\, famed Cuban percussionist Angá Díaz. Ibeyi means “twins” in Yoruba. \n\n\n	From the archive:
