DESCRIPTION:Join the Links Incorporated for the film screening of “Maestrina Da Favela”\, directed by Falani Spivey\, intimately films the coming-of-age of Brazilian percussionist\, Elisete “Elem” De Jesus and her mission to liberate children from a life of drugs and violence in her favela community. Filmed in Brazil’s capital of African culture\, Salvador\, Bahia the documentary explores the culture of Afro-Brazilians living in the rocinha favela\, located in the Pelourinho historic center\, which was once the largest slave market in the New World.
