Atlanta enjoyed a landmark year in 2024 when it came to two trends: links with Africa and new flights around the world.
Both were picked up in Global Atlanta’s 10 most-read stories of the year, a list that includes a surprisingly consistent focus on how the city fostered fresh global connections.
The No. 2 story, which highlighted Ethiopian Airlines’ one-stop link from Atlanta to South Africa, encapsulated both while also showcasing something new: branded content produced by the Global Atlanta Studio for our annual partners, which we launched to align our interests (traffic) with those of our readers (quality content) and advertisers (exposure).
Other items tackled classic Global Atlanta topics like foreign direct investment in Georgia, including new facilities by Danish and German firms and visits by foreign dignitaries like the Dutch king and queen.
Encouraging for us was that our readers also took note of our emphasis on traveling to report from abroad on Georgia connections. We sent a reporter to a smart-cities conference in Taiwan in March, then (accidentally) covered Kenya’s massive protests in June while there to follow up on the president’s Atlanta visit.
It would be easy to extrapolate from this list to plan 2025, but if we’ve learned anything while doing the news for 30-plus years, it’s the only thing we can predict is volatility. We just try to stay nimble in our reactions.
