Delta Air Lines no longer has a nonstop flight to Mumbai, but Atlantans can reach India through Amsterdam, thanks to the airline’s joint venture with Air France–KLM.
On the way back from India, we purposely scheduled a nine-hour layover in the Dutch capital to get a taste of the city. The 15-degree weather was a stark contrast from balmy Chennai, where we’d seen temperatures above 80.
The reception was much warmer than the weather, as a representative of Amsterdam in Business helped us take a quick walking tour of the city.
Back at the airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol officials talked with us about how the city integrates its airport into the broader development strategy. This reporting will inform our examination of the aerotropolis concept in Atlanta, which is seeking to use the airport as an engine to spur growth within its immediate sphere and throughout the metro region.
