Atlanta-based development firm Portman Holdings has opened a new Hong Kong office to serve its growing client base in the city.
Stanley Chin, Portman’s newly appointed managing director for China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, is overseeing the office and will split time between Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Hong Kong has become a market for Portman in its own right, but having an office in the financial hub will also augment efforts to raise capital for projects throughout China, said CEO Ambrish Baisiwala in a news release.
Portman Holdings also has offices in Shanghai, Seoul, and Mumbai, India. The company was founded by Atlanta architect John Portman Jr., who remains chairman of the company. Portman Holdings often manages the construction of buildings designed by John Portman & Associates.
Portman has designed and developed many high-profile projects in China. Hong Kong was the base for the initial expansion into the mainland led by John C. “Jack” Portman III in the early 1980s.
