The president of Atlanta-based architecture firm John Portman & Associates has been named one of the 50 most outstanding Asian Americans in business.

Grace Tan received the award from the Asian American Business Development Center at a June 21 gala in New York.

Ms. Tan, who is of Filipino and Chinese descent, joined Portman in 1985 and has steadily climbed the ranks of the company. She now oversees its business operations and marketing strategy.

The Asian American Business Development Center was established in New York in 1994 with a mission to assist Asian American businesses strengthen their capacities to compete in the mainstream marketplace, to expand business opportunities and to promote greater recognition of Asian American businesses’ contributions to the general economy.
