A seasonal flight starting Nov. 2 is set to link Atlanta with a Mexican port city aiming to showcase its charms to local travelers.
Aeromexico will launch the flight to Manzanillo, a coastal city south of Guadalajara on the Pacific Ocean, in an effort to give Atlantans a taste of the city’s tourism offering, which is centered around “pristine beaches, stunning resorts, and vibrant marine life,” according to a news release from the Consulate General of Mexico.
The service will run through April 27, with Aeromexico operating the weekly route as part of an expanded winter schedule announced in tandem with joint venture partner Delta Air Lines Inc. this summer. The flight from Atlanta heads southbound on Saturdays starting Nov. 2, with the return once weekly on Sundays.
Tourism officials from Manzanillo and the state of Colima visited Atlanta Tuesday to promote the new connection, which they hope will persuade Atlantans to try a destination that has traditionally not been top of mind for getaways to Mexico.
To that end, the Tourism Board of Manzanillo is offering special promotions for Atlanta residents, including tailored travel packages with discounts at top hotels, guided tours, experiences and culinary offerings including cenadurias, diners known for local fare.
Colima promotes Manzanillo as the “sailfish capital of the world” with unrivaled offerings for fishing, as well as ample hiking trails, golf courses and resorts situated along scenic volcanic beaches.
