A Hong Kong company with nearly a century of experience in the U.S market is set to get a taste of Georgia’s business climate as it sets up a factory by 2028.
Koon Chun (USA), a maker of soy sauce and other condiments, said Gainesville offered the right blend of workforce and logistical infrastructure to attract a $70 million investment the company says will help it better serve American customers.
The factory will provide jobs in production, sales, engineering and more as the company becomes one of more than 50 international subsidiaries with a presence in Hall County, a poultry-production capital which has carved out niches in food and advanced manufacturing.
The 41-acre site is located with the Gainesville 85 Business Park. Along with the Atlanta airport and the Georgia ports in Savannah, company leaders touted soon-to-open Blue Ridge Connector inland port terminal as a strong draw.
“Gainesville-Hall County offers one of the highest concentrations of food and pharmaceutical manufacturing in the nation, along with the talent, training and supplier network we were seeking,” Koon Chun’s Daniel Chan said in a news release.
Announced in mid-August, the project went public just a few weeks before this year’s Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival, coincidentally held in Hall County at Lake Lanier. Officials from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York were on hand to inaugurate the event, an annual celebration of Georgia’s Asian-American diversity that provides corporations and other groups an occasion for team-building as their teams of 20 race long dragon-headed boats at the former Olympic venue.
Greater Hall Chamber President Tim Evans said that the fourth-generation family company “takes a long-term view of its investments,” which will make it a strong partner for the community.
