Customers can now scan these quick response codes to get discounts around the airport.

Officials for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport introduced a promotional program that gives customers access to discounts through a smartphone application on April 19, making it the first airport with this new technology.

At a news conference, the airport debuted the program where customers with smartphones can scan more than 30 quick response codes around the airport to reveal food, beverage and retail discounts.

Popular in Japan and South Korea, these two-dimensional bar codes contain information that can be read by bar code scanners and camera phones.

“This is an exciting way to let passengers know about all the shops, restaurants and services the airport offers,” said Arnaldo Ruiz, assistant general manager for commercial development and customer service, in a news release.

When scanned, the codes take customers to the airport’s mobile website www.iflyatl.com, where there are downloadable discounts for the electronics and entertainment store InMotion Entertainment, Savannah’s Candy Kitchen and other stores.
