Export GA/Export AG, an agricultural export program of the Georgia Department of Agriculture and the University of Georgia (UGA), was recently honored with a program excellence award from the North American Small Business International Trade Educators (NASBITE).
Export GA/Export AG is a training program for small Georgia companies to learn about marketing, finance, legal topics, logistics and government services available for international businesses. It is directed by the International Trade Office of the Agriculture Department and the Business Outreach Services of the University of Georgia and is sponsored by BellSouth’s Guía EXPORT.
“The nine companies involved in the program which ended in January saw their export sales increase by $785,000. It has been a very successful venture,” Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin said.
Each company has a UGA intern during the eight-month program who provides research and other support.
NASBITE promotes the involvement of small businesses in international trade. Its members include international trade professionals from economic development organizations, colleges and universities, federal and state agencies and the private sector.
