Phil Bolton for GlobalAtlanta
The Georgia Department of Economic Development is organizing trade missions to Chile and Colombia, Mexico and South Africa before the end of the year. In addition, the department is organizing similar missions to China and India for the first quarter of 2007.

According to Carla Plouin, manager of the department’s international services in the Global Commerce Division, any Georgia-based company with Georgia-made products is welcome to participate.

Ms. Plouin told GlobalAtlanta that the department arranges for one-on-one matchmaking meetings for participants as well as providing introductions to government officials. She said that the department’s in-country representatives and trade specialists would assist the companies in preparing for the missions.

The trade mission to Chile and Colombia is to take place from Oct. 15-22; to Mexico from Nov. 20-22 and to South Africa from Dec. 4-12.

The department also is planning to participate in some 60 trade shows related to Georgia strategic industries, which the department has identified as: life sciences, aerospace, automotive, homeland security, agribusiness, energy and the environment, software, nanotechnology, advanced manufacturing, material science and others.

For more information about participating in the trade missions or trade shows and the costs involved, Ms. Plouin may be reached by calling (404) 962-4115 or by sending an email to cplouin@georgia.org.
