A Landmark development in Athens, Ga.

Landmark Properties, an Athens-based developer of student housing, is making a foray into the U.K. and Ireland.

The transatlantic move comes as the company celebrates its 20th anniversary, coming off a year in which it says it developed a quarter of all off-campus student housing in the United States.

A less mature market awaits in the U.K. and Ireland, where Landmark sees gaps between supply and demand amid rising enrollment numbers at universities.

“We see a tremendous opportunity to develop purpose-built student housing in the UK and Ireland and are confident that our expertise in developing high-quality student accommodations will be well-received,” Landmark President and CEO Wes Rogers said in a news release.

The company, which has an office in Atlanta, manages $13 billion in assets across 115 communities encompassing 71,000 beds. Executives did not say which of the two markets it would pursue first or whether it would open an office within either jurisdiction.

In the U.S., Landmark’sz pipeline includes 22 student and multifamily projects with an estimated value of $5 billion that are either under construction or should start soon .
