Claude Nicollier, a Swiss member of the first group of European astronauts chosen by the European Space Agency (ESA) in 1978 and now a veteran of three space flights, will speak at a dinner of the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce to be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the SwissÙtel in Buckhead from 6:45-10 p.m.
Mr. Nicollier is to speak on the topic, “Working and Living in Space.” He is to serve on the third Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission to take place in 2000, which will include a record six space walks scheduled for the mission.
Under an agreement of the ESA and NASA, he joined the NASA astronaut candidates selected in 1980 for astronaut training as a mission specialist.
Mr. Nicollier has logged more than 828 hours in space and has been commissioned a captain in the Swiss Air Force.
