A Swiss shipper focused on ferrying cars across the world has made its first call on the Port of Brunswick, the largest entry point for ocean-borne automotive shipments in the U.S.

Sallaum LinesSilver Soul ship arrived on the Georgia coast April 10, inaugurating its new service a week after President Trump’s 25 percent tariff on imported cars and trucks went into effect.

“This expansion aligns with our growth strategy and commitment to delivering reliable services to our clients in the U.S. and Africa. Brunswick’s strategic location and robust infrastructure make it an ideal addition to our global network,” said Sam Awad, vice president of sales and operations for Sallaum, said in a news release from the Georgia Ports Authority.

The new service comes two days after the Brunswick port set a new record for monthly traffic, processing 91,360 units of “roll-on, roll-off” cargo in March, up 18 percent compared to the prior year as companies front-loaded orders to avoid new tariffs, according to Griff Lynch, the GPA’s executive director.
