Further strengthening economic and cultural relations between the Sister Cities of Atlanta and Taipei, the deputy mayor of Taipei, Shih-Meng Chen, and a delegation from Taipei’s city council and private sector met with Mayor Bill Campbell on Aug. 9 and with officials of the Georgia Department of Industry Trade and Tourism (GDITT) the next day.

“Their primary purpose was to look at Atlanta’s sports venues, particularly the Georgia Dome, because they are considering building one,” said Glenda Blum Minkin, the city’s director of the Office of International Affairs.  “They also wanted to see how the city is preparing for the Olympics with regard to the construction, the venues and other aspects.”

She added that if Taipei decides it would like a facility  similar to the Dome, there is the possibility that those Atlanta firms involved in designing and constructing the Dome could be hired for the project.
