The Republic of China on Taiwan (ROC) has further increased the amount of U.S. chicken meat allowed into the country this year to 11,006 tons, Steve Chen, director of the commercial division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta, notified GlobalFax last week.
U.S. farmers and processors should benefit from the increase. Georgia is the number one producer of broilers in the U.S and is home to major processors including Cagle Inc. and GoldKist.
Last year, ROC allowed 10,000 tons of chicken products into the country following an agreement with the U.S. that it would support Taiwan’s admission into the World Trade Organization.
Mr. Chen said his government has reduced the number of favored Taiwanese importers of agricultural products into the ROC to 20, whose names may be obtained from his office.
