Jeffrey Berg, Britain’s director of trade for the U.S., visited Atlanta for the first time last week in an effort to generally familiarize himself with the operations of the British Consulate-General here, and more specifically to investigate opportunities for the 1,000 aerospace companies in the U.K.

Mr. Berg, who assumed his position eight months ago and is based in New York, oversees the trade responsibilities of the 13 British consulates in the U.S.

He told GlobalFax in a telephone interview that strong global demand for aircraft has made the aerospace a primary interest of his at the moment.  Calling U.K. aerospace companies worldclass, he said that he felt all the opportunities in the U.S. had not been fully explored.

The South particularly should be able to provide opportunities for small- to-medium sized U.K. companies because of the many similarly sized counterparts in the region, he added.

For more information about Mr. Berg’s visit, call Michael Shingler, deputy consul general in Atlanta, at the (404) 524-8823; fax, (404) 524-3153.
