Technology from ColumbusGa.-based Total System Services Inc., or TSYS, is underpinning the launch of the first U.S. dollar-denominated Visa credit card in Africa.

Kenya-based Commercial Bank of Africa has released four new cards with the backing of TSYS’s PRIME card management software. TSYS has managed processing of the bank’s suite of Visa cards since 1997.

The four new dollar-denominated cards will allow customers traveling in the United States to make purchases in dollars, avoiding foreign-exchange fees, according to Commercial Bank of Africa.

The cards are the first foreign-currency cards issued in Kenya, according to a TSYS news release.

The company’s PRIME card management platform is used by more than 130 clients in 70 countries.
