Duluth-based NCR Corp., a global provider of ATMs and other technology enabling financial transactions, has launched new software using its longtime European platform at the Turkish Economy Bank.

NCR, which does business in 180 countries, struck its first deal with TEB in 1990 for ATM technology. The companies have continued working together since then.

The new “interactive teller” technology, which is now in use for the first time in Europe at a TEB branch in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul, is designed to reduce wait times for customers and operating costs for the bank. The devices will allow a teller to handle nearly all of the typical banking transactions for multiple branches from one remote location.

By using live video and audio, the company hopes the innovation will help improve the customers’ overall banking experience by keeping the transactions efficient yet personable.

“European financial institutions are starting to recognize the exceptional experience they can provide to customers through Interactive Teller,” Yalcin Orhon, director of financial services at NCR Turkey said in a news release. “TEB is the first to realize these benefits in Europe, and other customers will follow shortly.”
