Atlanta-based United Parcel Service’s (UPS) acquisition last year of Finon Sofecom, a French logistics company in Lorraine, France, was “quite a coup for Lorraine” and should entice Georgia companies to the region, according to Frederic Mot, director of the Lorraine Development Corp. in Atlanta.
“Lorraine is the logistics center of Europe,” Mr. Mot told GlobalFax. “The transportation possibilities should be an incentive for more Atlanta companies to consider investing in the region.”
He said Lorraine is where the main east and west highways in France meet, so freight transport to the rest of Europe is easy. Lorraine’s Nancy Multimodal Logistics Park is a connecting point for the region’s major roads to the north, railways to Brussels and waterways to the North Sea.
The opening of DHL Worldwide Express freight delivery’s regional hub at the Metz Nancy Lorraine (MNL) Airport is another important development, added Mr. Mot.
Lorraine Development Corp. assists local companies to select investment sites, does market analysis and identifies joint venture partners in Lorraine.
