United Parcel Service Inc. has launched its UPS Premier service in China, improving the ability to track temperature-sensitive shipments in what executives call an “incredibly important market.”

China has long been vital for UPS’s healthcare division, as it operates a cold chain warehouse in Shanghai.

The Premier service, now available in 47 countries, includes a label with mesh sensor that provide a location to within 10 feet of the package, ensuring it’s tracked closely in the event of any disruptions or delays.

UPS Premier was key to the company’s 99.9 percent on-time delivery of 1.5 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine during the pandemic. It’s now used to send critical packages like tissue samples, biopsies, implantable medical devices and personalized medications, among other time- and temperature-sensitive items crucial to patient health.
