Two academic institutions and five international organizations are holding a Chinese/Lunar New Year celebration at the World Trade Center Atlanta on Thursday, Feb. 10, beginning at 5 p.m.

Larry Darrow, vice president for international business development at United Parcel Service Inc., is to speak at the event concerning UPS’ $100 million agreement with Sinotrans Air Transportation Development Co. Ltd.

The agreement for the transfer of the Chinese company’s international express agency to UPS was signed in December 2004 and the payment is to be made over a two-year period. Sinotrans and UPS began their relationship in 1988 when UPS first entered the China market in a 50/50 joint venture partnership.

State Sen. Sam Zamarripa, D-Atlanta, who launched the Georgia-China Alliance, a private sector initiative to raise the level of economic relations between Georgia and China, also is to speak.

Participating academic institutions are Georgia Perimeter College and the Center for International Business Education and Research at Georgia Institute of Technology. Participating organizations are Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Georgia, Assocation of Chinese Professionals, Hong Kong Association of Atlanta, International Business Association and the U.S.-China Peoples Friendship Association-Atlanta Chapter.
