SUMMARY:Atlanta Opera Community Conversation - Madama Butterfly
DESCRIPTION:The Atlanta Opera’s presentation of Madama Butterfly in November 2022 provides an opportunity for discussion and reflection on a beautiful and beloved\, but also troubled work of art. \nThe Atlanta Opera will produce a series of events and community conversations along with partners such as the Japan American Society of Georgia to contextualize and create a safe space for open-eyed exploration of Madama Butterfly. Fundamentally\, this is an opera written in the first decade of the 1900’s by a European man\, which reaches our modern ears and understanding in a different way. \nTheir goal is to ensure that audiences and performers of all races and ethnicities have the resources to think critically about the work. Community programming both live and digital will be announced as they are finalized over the summer. \nDetails: \n\nThe cast includes Japanese and Asian-American performers\, and their participation and representation is important to us. We realize that their experiences bring much to their performances\, and that these experiences are unique and their own.\nInclusion is not only important on stage but off stage\, as well. We will bring in advisors to guide our production and ensure respectful staging and conversation in the rehearsal process. Specifically\, a movement consultant.\nThe Atlanta Opera admires colleagues who acknowledge and embrace the work that must be done to present Madama Butterfly successfully.\n\n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:2020 U.S. Law Updates to Know for Japanese and Other Foreign Firms
DESCRIPTION:Join Baker Donelson and Kitahama Partners Joint Seminar co-sponsored by JETRO\, JASG and JCCG \nBaker Donelson will provide updates on several key U.S. laws that Japanese businesses should know about to help reach their goals and objectives for 2020. \nThey will cover: \n\nCFIUS Regulations\nThe Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) is an inter-agency committee chaired by the Treasury Department with the authority to review\, modify and potentially reject certain types of foreign investment that could adversely affect U.S. national security. CFIUS’s new regulation can have enormous impact on transactions in U.S. because even a minority investment in a U.S. company may be subject to the CFIUS review. To avoid unexpected delay or failure of transaction\, you must know this new regulation.\nEssentials of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)\nThe CCPA is an expansive privacy law which provides consumers with more rights and control over the personal information that businesses collect about them. The law went into effect on January 1\, 2020\, but continues to evolve in advance of the Attorney General beginning enforcement on July 1\, 2020. It’s a good time to double-check your company’s data activities relating to California consumers and it’s not too late to address the CCPA compliance obligations.\nThe current landscape of Legalized Marijuana\nThere are a number of inconsistencies between US Federal and State laws that make it difficult to determine what is legal. 33 states plus the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana for medical purposes\, and 11 states have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Are you prepared for dealing with marijuana which appears in relation to your business and workplace?\n\nAlso joining are attorneys from Kitahama Partners from Japan. They will present “How to Handle Legal Matters in the US from Japanese Perspective\,” and also can provide insights for U.S. companies doing business in Japan. \nModerator and Speakers: \n\nBob Johnson\, Baker Donelson\, Shareholder\nJohn M. Scannapieco\, Baker Donelson\, Shareholder\nAlex Koskey\, Baker Donelson\, Associate\nMike Williams\, Baker Donelson\, Associate\nHannah Jarrells\, Baker Donelson\, Associate\nTakanori Nakajima\, Baker Donelson\, Visiting Attorney\nJiri Mestecky\, Kitahama Partners\, Partner\nMasataka Shitanishi\, Kitahama Partners\, Partner\nMika Akiyama\, Kitahama Partners\, Registered Foreign Attorney\n\nAgenda \n\n1:00 p.m. Registration\n1:30 p.m. Introductions and Welcoming Remarks\n1:40 p.m. Presentations\n4:50 p.m. Concluding Remarks – Transition to Reception\n5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Reception\n\n \n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:The International Cyber Drill Experience: Cross-Border Breach
DESCRIPTION:For many organizations with a global presence or international transactions\, having to deal with a personal data breach under data protection and privacy regulations\, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in EU law\, often requires parallel notification requirements to other regulatory authorities or bodies in multiple jurisdictions. Navigating multiple regulatory frameworks requires cross-border and cross-office awareness and cooperation by a team that has a clear understanding of the overall picture. Working in silos cannot be an option\, and some preparatory work and training is necessary. \nJoin Baker Donelson\, Trevelino/Keller\, and Secure Merger for a high-energy interactive cyber security breach simulation that puts the audience members in the c-suite and guides them through the 72-hour action and response drill. \nWith the help of their breach response advisory team consisting of legal\, forensic and crisis communications\, fast-paced decisions will be made as participants respond to new developments in the cyber crisis from a cross border perspective\, under time pressure\, with incomplete facts. The drill will address issues surrounding regulatory scrutiny\, rogue employees\, negative press\, social media storms and reputational issues with customers\, employees\, partners and prospects. The end result – insight into real world scenarios and participants will leave with actionable information that they can take back to their organization to raise awareness and share their experience making it more cyber secure. \n\n\n	From the archive:
