DESCRIPTION:The Consulate Genral of Mexico in Atlanta is pleased to extend a cordial invitation to attend the concert of the renowned international flautist\, Elena Durán\,\nwhich will take place on April 22\, 2018 at 5:00 pm at the Conant Performing Arts Center in Oglethorpe University. The Mexican-American artist will give a concert\npaying homage to Mexican actor and singer\, Pedro Infante on the 100 th anniversary of his birth. In “100 Años de Pedro Infante”\, Elena will perform\npopular songs of Mexican cinema such as “Cien Años” by Rubén Fuentes\, “Cucurrucucu Paloma” by Tomás Méndez\, “Amorcito Corazón” by Manuel\nEsperón\, “Zacatecas” by Genaro Codina and “Ella” by José Alfredo Jiménez\, among others. Elena Durán has participated in concerts and recordings with prestigious orchestras in the United Kingdom\, the United States of America and Europe\, as well as in practically all orchestras in Mexico and has made Mexican music a passion\, with great success in her shows. SUMMARY:A Night of Jazz\, Blues\, and Funk with Joe Alterman
DESCRIPTION:The Arts at Oglethorpe is pleased to present an evening of jazz\, blues\, and funk with renowned pianist Joe Alterman and featuring the Jazz Orchestra Atlanta\, directed by Brent Runnels\, on October 1\, 2016. Headlining around the country and the world\, Joe Alterman\, an Atlanta native\, studied music at NYU\, earning both his bachelor’s and his master’s degrees and studying under a few of the greats\, including Don Friedman\, Joe Lovano\, and John Scofield. Joe Alterman’s most recent recording\, “Georgia Sunset\,” produced by Houston Person\, garnered much critical praise and reached #6 on the JazzWeek radio charts. General admission tickets are only $20 and are available for purchase both online or at the door. A portion of all ticket proceeds will go toward the benefit of the OU Music Department. Pre-performance snacks and meals will be available through Oglethorpe Dining and orders should be placed prior to September 24.
