Remarks are off-the-record and not recorded but social media posts are encouraged. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMio Maeda\, Consul General of Japan\nMr. Mio Maeda received a law degree from the University of Tokyo and joined Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in 1990.  As a diplomatic trainee\, Mr. Maeda continued his studies at University of Oxford  and then returned to MOFA where he held various positions throughout a three-decade long career. \n\n\n\nIn 2000\, he was appointed Deputy Dir\, Research & Programming Division (Economic Cooperation Bureau) and then became Deputy Dir of the 2nd  Southeast Asia Division (Asian & Oceanian Affairs Bureau). Following\, Mr. Maeda served MOFA as Deputy Dir of Consular Policy Division (Consular Affairs Bureau). In 2004\, Mr. Maeda became Counselor at the Embassy of Japan in Italy\, and two year later served the same position in Socialist Republic of Vietnam. In 2009\, returning to Japan was appointed Senior Coordinator of Global Issues Cooperation Division (International Cooperation Bureau). In 2011 Mr. Maeda was made Counselor for the National Policy Unit (Cabinet Secretariat) and then Minister-Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. In 2014 Mr. Maeda returned to Japan to serve as Dir of the Southwest Asia Division (SE & SW Asian Affairs Dept\, MOFA\, Japan). In 2015\, Mr. Maeda was seconded to the Imperial Household Agency and appointed Chamberlain to HIH the Crown Prince of Japan\, and later as Chamberlain to HM the Emperor of Japan\, until 2019. Mr. Maeda then became Minister\, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Switzerland. Remarks are off-the-record and not recorded but social media posts are encouraged. \nAbout Consul General Anne-Laure Desjonquères \nAnne-Laure Desjonquères is a career diplomat who joined the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEFA) in 2006.\nBefore being appointed Consul General of France in Atlanta\, she was the head of the division of European Union law and international economic law in the Legal Affairs Department of the MEFA since 2018. \nShe served as head of the Press & Communication Office at the French Embassy in New Delhi (India) from 2015 to 2017\, and as political advisor on domestic and African policy issues at the French Embassy in Pretoria (South Africa) from 2012 to 2015. \nShe was also a desk officer in the Strategic Affairs Department\, in charge of nuclear disarmament issues from 2010 to 2012\, and a legal consultant in European Union law in the Legal Affairs Department from 2006 to 2009. \nA former student of the French National School of Administration (ENA) and of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (Ulm)\, she graduated from Sciences Po in Paris and from the University of Paris-IV Sorbonne (Master’s Degree in History of International Relations). \nAnne-Laure Desjonquères is 43 years old. Ms. Moltmann comes to the Southeast U.S. from Berlin\, where she served as Deputy Head of Division\, Division for Immigration Law\, Visa and Immigration Policy.\nMs. Moltmann also has served Deputy Head of Mission and Counselor for Cultural and Press Affairs in the German embassy in Tashkent\, Uzbekistan; Desk Officer\, Division for South East Asia and the Pacific in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin; and Deputy Head of Mission\, German Embassy Yerevan\, Armenia. \nA Russian speaker\, Ms. Moltmann earned an LLM degree in Moscow between her legal studies and a three-year study program at the Court of Cassation in Schleswig\, Germany. She is married and has three sons. \nThe German Consulate General in Atlanta was opened in 1904 and is the official representation of the German government to the southeast of the United States. SUMMARY:Diplomatic Dialogue: A Breakfast Meeting with Yoonjoo Park\, Consul General of Korea
DESCRIPTION:The United States and the ROK share a long history of cooperation based on mutual trust\, shared values of democracy\, human rights\, and the rule of law\, common strategic interests\, and an enduring friendship. The two countries work together to combat regional and global threats and to strengthen their economies. The United States and the ROK continue to coordinate closely on respective engagements with the DPRK\, the implementation of sanctions\, and inter-Korean cooperation. \nThe United States has maintained Army\, Air Force\, Navy\, and Marine personnel in the ROK in support of its commitment under the U.S.-ROK Mutual Defense Treaty to help the ROK defend itself against external aggression. As the ROK’s economy has developed (it joined the OECD in 1996)\, trade and investment ties have become an increasingly important aspect of the U.S.-ROK relationship\, including through implementation of the amended Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA). \nKorea is currently the 8th largest export market for Georgia and ranks 4th among Georgia’s importer nations. Georgia is home to at least 75 Korean facilities\, of which at least 28 are manufacturing locations. These Korean-affiliated companies currently employ over 10\,000 Georgians. \nThe state of Georgia has had continuous representation in Korea since 1985. Three Georgia communities have sister city agreements with South Korea: Atlanta – Daegu; Cobb County – Seongdong-Gu; and Gwinnett County -Gangnam-Gu \nThe Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) in Savannah has an established relationship with ports of Korea and offers six weekly shipping services to the Port of Busan. GPA’s Brunswick Port also offers fortnightly shipping services to Incheon\, Masan\, Pyongtaek and Kunsan. \nAbout Yoonjoo Park \nConsul General Park earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Seoul National University in 1993 and a master’s degree in International Trade and Investment from George Washington University in 2002. \nHe passed the High Diplomatic Service Examination and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995. He has lived and worked in Korea\, the Islamic Republic of Iran\, Australia\, and the United States of America. He was appointed First Secretary at the Korean Embassy in the United States of America in 2004. \nHe held various positions such as Counsellor of the Korean Embassy in Iran\, Director of North America Division Ⅱ\, Deputy Consul-General of the Korean Consulate General in Boston\, Counsellor of the Korean Embassy in Australia\, Deputy Director-General for North American Affairs\, and Director-General for Human Resources. \nHe arrived in Atlanta in June 2021 to take the position of Consul General of the Republic of Korea. The Consulate opened in Atlanta in 1976 and covers the states Georgia\, Alabama\, Florida\, North Carolina\, South Carolina\, and Tennessee and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
