SUMMARY:Cirque Kalabanté – “Afrique en Cirque” | Guinean Acrobats
DESCRIPTION:Created by Yamoussa Bangoura and inspired by daily life in his native Guinea\, “Afrique en Cirque” (Africa in Circus) presented by performers of Cirque Kalabanté portrays the beauty\, youth and artistry of West African culture. \n\n\n\nThe Rialto stage will vibrate with energy representing the strength\, agility and joys of young West Africans through a show that is colorful beyond its costumes\, scenery and staging. Acrobats will execute gravity-defying moves and human pyramids accompanied by contemporary Afro-Jazz\, percussion and kora. \n\n\n\nAfter joining Guinea’s original Circus Baobab as a young man\, Bangoura’s dream of founding a school of circus arts evolved through his own performances in and contributions to several Canadian theatrical productions including Cirque du Soleil\, Cirque Eloize and Cavalia. In 2018\, he recruited his twin sisters\, brothers and cousins to launch their own school and studio in Montreal offering classes in percussion\, cirque and African dance. \n\n\n\nAudiences will enjoy Cirque Kalabanté’s acrobatic skills and achievements\, which also support the Company’s humanitarian mission to help the Guinean community from which the family originated. \n\n\n\n“With explosive drumming and dance routines\, the group delivered mind-blowing acrobatic sequences with extraordinary precision!”              — Vice Magazine \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Compagnie Hervé KOUBI
DESCRIPTION:Internationally renowned dance company\, Compagnie Hervé KOUBI\, debuts their critically acclaimed work “What the Day Owes to the Night” (Ce que le jour doit à la nuit) at the Rialto.   Recognized as one of Europe’s most distinctive choreographers\, Hervé KOUBI believed he was of French heritage until he was 25\, when his father suddenly revealed his Algerian roots. “What the Day Owes to the Night” is the result of his ensuing journey to his parents’ homeland\, where he recruited artists who had never been to dance school\, but performed hip-hop and capoeira\, backflips and head spins\, on Algeria’s streets and beaches.  In a beautifully fluid piece of inspired choreography that combines urban and contemporary dance movement\, capoeira\, and martial arts with powerful imagery\, KOUBI’s French-Algerian West-African all-male dance troupe presents a jaw-dropping performance packed with emotional intensity. \n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Che Malambo: Muy Macho Men!
DESCRIPTION:Danced exclusively by men\, malambo dates to the 17th century when it emerged on the Argentine Pampas as a competitive duel among gauchos (or cowboys) to prove prowess\, strength\, and vigor. Their precise footwork (or zapeto) mimicking the galloping of horses\, the intense drumming of the bombos\, and the whirling of the boleadoras (or lassos) combine for a thrilling dance and music spectacle. Don’t miss Che Malambo’s fiery\, virtuosic dancing as the company debuts on the Rialto stage. \nPerchance single tickets online and in the Rialto Center’s Box Office.
