DESCRIPTION:“The Wash” by Kelundra Smith is a new\, homegrown play inspired by the Atlanta Washerwomen’s Strike of 1881. Just weeks before the International CottonExposition swept into the city\, African American laundresses took a stand\, demanding the right to set their own wages. Directed by Brenda Porter—with an all women cast and creative team– delve into this intimate and often humorous story about ordinary womenwho fought the system and won. \n\n\n\nThe play will be presented by Synchronicity Theatre in Midtown\, June 7-30 and Impact Theatre at theAcademy in Hapeville\, July 10-28. \n\n\n\nSpecial Events:Attend a special pre-show discussion at Synchronicity Theatre on June 12 at 6 p.m.\, Creating Women | BIPOC Playwrights: New Plays\, New Ways featuring local Blackwomen playwrights. Hosted by Essential Theatre and Hush Harbor Lab. \n\n\n\nJoin us for Indigo Nights at 6:30 p.m. on June 19 at Synchronicity Theatre and July 19 at the Academy Theatre\, featuring sweet and savory foods from Atlanta-based African American chefs an hour before the performance.
