SUMMARY:Roundtable for Peace on the Korean Peninsula
DESCRIPTION:Working to provide a forum to discuss the geopolitical and inter-Korean momentum of 2018 toward peace and reconciliation\, United Methodist Global Ministries will present the Roundtable for Peace on the Korean Peninsula in Atlanta with an opening session. \nFormer President Jimmy Carter will welcome the group\, and in his remarks\, he will offer his perspective on the events of this year concerning the prospect of peace for the peninsula. He will be asked to comment on the role of the church in peace efforts and the steps needed for not only avoiding war but also achieving reconciliation between North and South Korea\, and between North Korea and the United States. \nReflecting the worldwide ecumenical commitment to peace\, the conference will feature representatives from throughout Korea and religious organizations currently serving the people of the region. \nSpeakers scheduled to appear include:\n• Jimmy Carter\, 39th president of the United States\n• James T. Laney\, former U.S. Ambassador to South Korea\n• Kim Young Jun\, consul general\, Republic of Korea\, for the Southeast U.S.\n• Lee Hong Jung\, secretary general\, National Council of Churches\, Korea\n• Peter Prove\, director\, International Affairs\, World Council of Churches\, Geneva\n• Christine Ahn\, founder and international coordinator\, Women Cross DMZ\n• Jongdae Kim\, co-founder and executive director\, Re’Generation Movement\n• Moon Jae-in\, president of the Republic of Korea\, is expected to send a video greeting \n(Note: Due to security regulations advance registration is required.) \n\n\n	From the archive:
