SUMMARY:Night of Ideas!
DESCRIPTION:In 2026\, as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of its independence\, Night of Ideas Atlanta invites the public to explore the theme Enlightenment Now. This special edition foregrounds the voices of youth and civil society\, opening a vibrant dialogue on the contemporary relevance of Enlightenment ideals and the values that have long linked France and the United States: democracy\, progress\, freedom of expression\, culture\, education\, and the rule of law. \n\n\n\nThroughout the evening\, discussions will examine how young people and civic actors can actively participate in shaping public policy and imagining more just and sustainable futures. Conversations will address access to education\, critical and creative thinking\, civic engagement\, and the creation of spaces for open expression in the face of misinformation and polarization. The program will also explore how cities—through climate resilience\, food democracy\, housing innovation\, technology\, and social justice—can foster inclusive and sustainable urban futures\, with a special focus on Atlanta. \n\n\n\nThrough talks\, performances\, and cross-disciplinary exchanges\, Enlightenment Now! offers a moment to revisit the founding ideals that continue to shape our shared democratic project—and to ask what enlightenment means today\, in Atlanta and beyond. \n\n\n\nPresented By:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore Information\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	From the archive:

Mr. Harrold has also been instrumental in navigating through the Georgia General Assembly significant pro-economic development legislation including the Motion Picture Production Tax Credit\, Single Factor Apportionment Formula\, Repeal of the Georgia Intangibles Tax\, Tourism Development Act and the Anti-SLAPP legislation for the movie industry passed in the 2016 Session of the Georgia General Assembly. \nMr. Harrold has traveled to more than 70 countries and was one of the original founders of the World Law Group\, which was established in 1987 and is recognized as the elite and premier international legal network with more than 61 member firms with offices in 93 countries connecting 21\,000+ lawyers. He is an involved counselor for his friends\, who he is honored to represent\, and not just a contract legal technician. \nHis greatest enjoyment is to get a company to locate in the Southeast\, make new friends and help them succeed. \nAbout the Consular Conversations series: \nSponsored by Miller & Martin PLLC since its inception in 2016\, Global Atlanta’s Consular Conversations series consists of monthly public interviews with consuls general in the Southeast United States. \n \n\nCost: $15\, or $50 for an annual pass to all monthly Consular Conversations  \n\n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:US-China at 40: Seeking A New Framework to Manage Bilateral Relations
DESCRIPTION:ATLANTA — Forty years after U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping ended three decades of estrangement between the United States and the People’s Republic of China\, The Carter Center will convene a three-day symposium on Sino-American relations. \nThe symposium\, which takes place Jan. 17-19\, will include talks and panel discussions featuring several dozen leading scholars\, think-tank experts\, and veterans of statecraft. Much of the event\, including keynote remarks on the morning of Jan. 18 by President Carter and Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai\, will be open to the press. \nThe symposium comes at a critical time for U.S.-China relations\, which in recent months have been marked by increasing tension and an acrimonious trade war. \n“As President Carter himself recently noted\, the benefits that both our countries have reaped from four decades of increasing cooperation are now in jeopardy because of a deterioration of trust and respect in both capitals\,” said Carter Center CEO Ambassador (ret.) Mary Ann Peters. “Ensuring that the United States and China can continue to navigate toward collaboration on bilateral and global issues is one of the vital challenges of our time.” \nBackground: On Dec. 15\, 1978\, Carter and Deng announced that they would “normalize” diplomatic ties between the two nations on Jan. 1\, 1979\, laying the foundation for the rapid growth of bilateral relations. Today\, the American and Chinese economies are the world’s two largest\, and Sino-American economic\, political\, and military relations weigh heavily on the global future. President Carter’s breakthrough with China stands as one of the major foreign-policy accomplishments of his presidency. \n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Managing Sustainability and Food Security in Conflict Regions
DESCRIPTION:Food insecurity is both a cause and consequence of conflict. Managing food insecurity poses increasing challenges to the international development community.  Food insecurity as a cause of conflict is often linked to international market dynamics\, which can send shock waves across continents\, as the world experienced during the 2007/2008 global food price crisis. Food insecurity as a consequence of conflict is related to the destruction\, disruption\, and diversion of productive resources during conflict. The purpose of this workshop is to generate greater awareness of the importance and challenges of food security management as a conflict prevention policy and a humanitarian response mechanism in conflict-affected regions. \n\n\n	From the archive:
