SUMMARY:Light the Night: Noguchi Lantern parade Connects High Museum to Piedmont Park
DESCRIPTION:The High Museum of Art invites Atlantans to celebrate the legacy of artist Isamu Noguchi with a lantern parade linking the museum to his iconic “Playscapes” installation in Piedmont Park. Inspired by Noguchi’s signature “Akari” lanterns\, this family-friendly evening blends art\, movement\, and community in a unique outdoor experience. \n\n\n\nThe event begins with access to the exhibition Isamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer”\, along with guided tours and hands-on lantern-making led by Atlanta lantern artist Chantelle Rytter. Guests can also enjoy music\, interactive art activities\, and remarks from local cultural leaders\, creating an engaging atmosphere that connects Noguchi’s work to contemporary creative practice. \n\n\n\nThe evening culminates in a festive lantern parade from the High to “Playscapes\,” the sculptural playground commissioned for Atlanta’s bicentennial. Participants are encouraged to carry their own lanterns and join the illuminated procession\, celebrating Noguchi’s vision through art\, light\, and shared experience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nParade Route\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Dutch Art in a Global Age: Masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston
DESCRIPTION:Observers in the seventeenth century described the Netherlands as the world’s marketplace. Dutch merchants possessed a capitalist mindset and benefited from innovations in naval and military technology. The Dutch East India Company\, the world’s first multinational corporation\, was founded in 1602 to dominate trade in the Pacific and Indian Oceans\, forever changing the global economy. New commodities flowed to the Dutch Republic and made a small nation immensely rich. This in turn fueled an artistic boom. The most famous Dutch artists in the seventeenth century—Hals\, Rembrandt\, Ruisdael\, Ruysch—are still admired today. \n\n\n\nThis exhibition explores how international travel and trade transformed Dutch art and society. Still life paintings feature imported products; seascapes\, landscapes\, and maps reveal where these products came from. A section including cityscapes and maps addresses Amsterdam’s rise as Europe’s commercial hub. The focus then turns to Dutch portraits\, both painted and printed. Local landscapes show how exposure to the world’s wonders paradoxically reinforced pride in Dutch topography. The exhibition concludes with beautiful objects in silver and ceramic and depictions of daily life\, demonstrating the coexistence of the familiar and the foreign. Throughout\, this exhibition emphasizes artistic achievement while encouraging visitors to consider the human costs of global commerce. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Bruce Onobrakpeya: The Mask and the Cross
DESCRIPTION:Join the High Museum of Art for the first solo exhibition at an American museum for sculptor and printmaker Bruce Onobrakpeya (born 1932)\, one of the fathers of Nigerian modernism and a founding member of the Zaria Art Society\, an art collective that developed the “natural synthesis” aesthetic that came to define early postcolonial Nigerian art. The Mask and the Cross describes the artist’s creative phase from 1967 through 1978\, during which he created numerous works marrying Nigerian tradition\, folklore\, and cosmology with Catholic motifs and stories from the Bible. This period began with the creation of a series commissioned by the Catholic Church titled Fourteen Stations of the Cross\, which depicts scenes from the last earthly day of Jesus Christ. Onobrakpeya portrays Biblical characters as Nigerian and reimagines Biblical scenes in Nigerian settings. This exhibition will consider religious “double belonging” as an exercise in agency\, subversion\, and cultural resilience. Grounded in the High’s own edition of Onobrakpeya’s Fourteen Stations of the Cross prints\, The Mask and the Cross will showcase other works from this period\, as well as examples from later periods\, as themes of religious hybridity and multiplicity continue to appear throughout the artist’s sixty-year career. \n\n\n	From the archive:
