SUMMARY:Mind the Gap: Bridging Franco-American Cultural Differences at Work
DESCRIPTION:Despite the long-standing friendship between the U.S. and France\, the cultural gaps between French and Americans are as different as Coca-Cola and a fine Bordeaux. In today’s fast-paced and complex global environment\, increasing understanding of the impact culture has on communication and work practices is the key to driving harmonious working relationships between the two cultures. This interactive presentation will highlight some of the historical and cultural factors that have shaped the beliefs and values in each country and how they impact behaviors at work. FACC Atlanta members will gain new insights into the main barriers that impede communication and collaboration and learn tips to optimize engagement with their French or American colleagues and clients. \n\n\n\nPresenter \n\n\n\nJulia Gaspar-Bates\, M.A.\, is President of Intercultural Alliances\, LLC (www.interculturalalliances.com) a cross-cultural training and consulting firm based in Washington DC. A British-American\, Julia started her career in Paris\, where she lived and worked for nearly eight years. She has trained thousands of leaders and teams on five continents to help them increase their intercultural sensitivity\, knowledge\, and skills to successfully navigate the complexities and opportunities of working across cultural and geographic borders. Julia is currently co-writing a book with a colleague in Paris on cultural differences between the French and Americans at work\, a journey that has only deepened her awareness of the cultural differences between the two countries and how to best resolve them. Julia holds a Master’s of Arts in Intercultural Relations and spent 10 years teaching at George Washington University. She is also an active member of the FACC Washington DC for whom she has given frequent presentations over the years. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:International Business Webinar -- Seeds of Growth: How AGCO Built a Global Tractor Powerhouse from Atlanta
DESCRIPTION:When Martin Richenhagen joined AGCO Corp. in 2004\, it was already a $3 billion publicly traded firm. But sixteen years later\, when he retired from his posts as chairman and CEO\, it was a Fortune 500 powerhouse combining some of the biggest brands in the business of agricultural equipment. With $10 billion in sales\, AGCO doubled in size during his tenure to more than 20\,000 employees around the globe. \nThis extraordinary growth story\, rooted in metro Atlanta\, is linked with Mr. Richenhagen’s vision to expand aggressively via acquisitions while peering constantly around the corner to see future trends in food and farming. \nRather than being absorbed in the halls of academia\, Mr. Richenhagen’s business acumen developed from natural curiosity and hustle\, starting during his early years as a religion scholar and French teacher and developing alongside a  love of horses that propelled his ascent to the highest levels of competitive dressage. \nJoin the Georgia State University CIBER in the latest of its ongoing International Business Webinar series for a discussion with Mr. Richenhagen moderated by Global Atlanta Managing Editor Trevor Williams. \nAbout Martin Richenhagen: \nMartin Richenhagen was the first and for many years the only German CEO of a U.S.. Fortune 500 company. Born and raised in Cologne\, he studied theology\, philosophy and worked as a French teacher before he changed fields and started a successful international business career that led him to 16 years at the helm at AGCO ending in 2020. \nKey Takeaways: \n\nHow multinational corporations should navigate a strategy of growth through acquisitions versus organic sales\nLessons on hiring\, training and deploying executives in various emerging and developed markets and across functions\, from management to marketing to manufacturing\nHow leaders can use embrace cultural differences as an advantage rather than a hindrance\n\nContact Paula Huntley with any registration questions at gsuciber@gsu.edu.\n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:The Song Remains the Same: Exploring the Intersection of U.S. Export Controls and Life Sciences Companies
DESCRIPTION:Over the past few months\, much has been written about the expansive U.S. sanctions against Russia and Belarus. Burke\, Corporate partner and co-chair of the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices team\, and Alan G. Minsk\, partner\, leader of the Food & Drug team\, and co-chair of the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices team\, for a complimentary webinar focusing on considerations related to export controls and trade sanctions. \nThis webinar will focus on a variety of topics\, including:\n• a discussion on how life sciences companies are affected by U.S. export controls and\n• how those companies can develop a specific and nimble export controls compliance program. \nThere will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end of this webinar. \nCredits: 1 hour of CLE credit is pending approval by the State Bar of Georgia. \n\n\n	From the archive:

SUMMARY:Next Move? Considerations In The Troubled US-Russia Relationship with Dmitri V. Trenin Director\, Carnegie Moscow Center
DESCRIPTION:Serious border conflicts between Russia and China have since been resolved with mutual border agreements signed in the early 2000s. Since then\, increasingly coordinated military exercises on land\, sea\, and in the air as well as increased trade agreements initiated by a perceived threat America seems to present to both nations has brought us to the current American/Russian foreign policy outcomes. Will this relationship further deteriorate to the advantage of China\, or are there other paths to explore? \nDimitri Trenin will offer the Russian perspective regarding this growing alliance\, the perceived American threat that drives it\, and what options possibly hang in the balance for both America and Russia. \nAbout Dr. Trenin\nDmitri V. Trenin\, PhD\, has been the Director of the Carnegie Moscow Center since 2008\, and was the first Russian to be appointed to this position. He is also a senior associate of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. \nHe was also the first non-NATO senior fellow at the NATO Defense College (1993) and\, upon retirement from the military\, a visiting professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (1993–1994). In 1994–1997\, Trenin was also a senior research fellow at the Institute of Europe\, Russian Academy of Sciences. Dmitri Trenin received his PhD from the Institute of the USA and Canada\, Soviet Academy of Sciences (1984). \nAt Carnegie\, Dmitri Trenin chairs the Foreign and Security Policy Program. He is the author of more than 10 books\, including: Russia; What is Russia up to in the Middle East?; Should We Fear Russia?; Russia and the World in the 21st Century; Unconditional Peace: 21st Century Euro-Atlantic as a Security Community; Post-Imperium: A Eurasian Story; Solo Voyage; Central Asia: The Views from Washington\, Moscow\, and Beijing; Integration and Identity: Russia as a New West; and others. \nDmitri Trenin is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London\, the Russian International Affairs Council\, the Russian International Studies Association\, and other organizations. \n\n\n	From the archive:
