GDEcD Intern Program

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD)'s Internship Program provides students and recent graduates valuable learning experiences and opportunities to make professional connections in the workplace.

As the sales and marketing arm for the State of Georgia, GDEcD plans, manages and mobilizes state resources to attract new business investment to Georgia, drive the expansion of existing industry and small business, locate new markets for Georgia products, inspire tourists to visit Georgia and promote the state as a top destination for arts events and film, music and digital entertainment projects.

GDEcD Interns are able to shadow and work closely with the professionals charged with carrying out this important mission. Responsibilities vary based on the particular internship. Typical assignments include focuses on research, marketing, event planning and execution, communication and public relations.

GDEcD internships are unpaid; however, GDEcD supervisors are willing to ensure that all academic requirements are met for interns seeking academic credit. Internships are limited to a period of beneficial learning and there should be no expectation of a paid position with GDEcD at the conclusion of the internship.

Description

As the International Relations intern, you will support the international relations team in hosting international delegations, coordinating meetings with international businesses and the consular corps, and planning international missions for the Governor and GDEcD Commissioner. The ideal candidate will be working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in International Relations, International Business, Marketing, Political Science, Public Relations, or a closely related field. Ability to speak a foreign language and experience living abroad is a plus. An ideal candidate must possess an attention to detail, communicate clearly with strong interpersonal skills, have the ability to multi-task, and have a high degree of self-initiative.

Job Responsibilities

Communications
o Draft official correspondence to Georgia’s diplomat community
o Draft official briefings for state officials and senior staff members
o Follow-up on diplomatic correspondence

Research
o Conduct company, city, regional, and cultural research for economic missions
o Collaborate with internal and external partners to update country-specific information on trade, art, tourism, and investment

Event Planning & Logistics
o Coordinate logistics for international delegation visits
o Support planning for quarterly events with Georgia’s diplomatic community
o Network with international business community and Consular Corps at events

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

A successful intern will have a strong grasp of written and verbal communication, be highly attentive to detail, adaptable, a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced team environment which encourages collaboration. Candidates are encouraged to apply while working towards their bachelor’s or master’s degree in International Relations, International Business, Marketing, Political Science, Public Relations, or a closely related field.
