The ACIR is set to host the Czech ambassador for a luncheon Monday.

With war on their doorstep in Ukraine, the ambassadors of the Central European nations of Czech Republic and Poland are set to visit Atlanta over the next month to pitch investors and shore up ties in the economically ascendant Southeast U.S. region.

Hosted by Honorary Consul Monika Vintrlikova, Czech envoy Miloslav Stašek will arrive this weekend, taking in an opera performance Sunday by two divas including Czech soprano Ester Pavlu before speaking at an Atlanta Council on International Relations luncheon Monday afternoon.

The 20-year diplomatic veteran served as deputy ambassador to Saudi Arabia and as ambassador to Egypt and India on successive appointments. Before becoming state secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the post he held before his appointment to Washington, he headed up the country’s economic diplomacy efforts. See his bio here.

Mr. Stašek becomes the second Czech ambassador to visit Georgia in two years, as Hynek Kmonicek came on a late-2020 trip to install Ms. Vintrlikova as honorary consul. She’ll be celebrating her second year officially the role this November.

In the middle of that month, Polish Ambassador Marek Magierowski is set to come to Atlanta, where he plans to meet with companies to drum up investment interest and hold public forums to engage with the local community, including one already teased by the World Affairs Council of Atlanta. The visit will coincide with the Metro Atlanta Chamber’s annual meeting, which he plans to attend.

A 20-year journalist with an expertise in foreign affairs, Mr. Magierowski joined the Polish foreign ministry in 2015 as a public-diplomacy expert. He went to head up the president’s press office in 2017, then served undersecretary of state from 2017-18 at the foreign ministry. After that, he was sent for three years as Poland’s ambassador to Israel, then moved to his role in the United States in 2021. Read his full bio here.
