Peace on the Korean Peninsula: Can the ROK-US Alliance Defend Against A Threatening Nuclear Shadow?

June and July of 2023, will mark the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice and subsequent termination of open hostilities. ROK-US mutual defense treaties have guaranteed the peace and the accumulated prosperity of the ROK. Its rising industrial and technological advances place it near the top of the global pyramid, while a third-generation Kim’s mounting insecurity, fueled by a free people on his doorstep, has led to an obsession for advanced nuclear and missile technology that threatens the stability of the Korean Peninsula and its Pacific neighbors. Can peace prevail on a peninsula that reflects darkness and enlightenment?
